The selection of biomass pellet fuel can be considered from the following aspects:
High-quality biomass pellet fuel should be made of pure and single raw materials. Common raw materials include wood chips, straw, rice husks, etc. If the source of raw materials is complex, it may lead to unstable combustion performance.
Wood pellets: Made from wood processing residues, with high combustion calorific value and less ash, it is an ideal biomass pellet fuel. Straw pellets: Made from crop straw, the cost is relatively low, but the ash content may be slightly higher. Rice husk pellets: With a certain hardness, it is relatively stable when burning, but the calorific value may be slightly lower than wood chip pellets.
Pellet quality:
The appearance should be cylindrical, uniform in length, smooth on the surface, without cracks and impurities, brown or light yellow is preferred, otherwise the production process may be poor or there may be problems with the raw materials. The high density has a long combustion time and high calorific value, which can be calculated by measuring weight and volume. Generally, the quality is better at 1.0 - 1.3g/cm³. High hardness is not easy to break, easy to store and transport, can be felt by hand, easy to break will produce powder during transportation, affecting the combustion effect. Low moisture content has high combustion efficiency, and it is not easy to produce black smoke and odor. It should be controlled below 8%, which can be measured by a moisture meter.
Combustion performance:
The calorific value. The higher the calorific value, the more heat is released. For example, wood chip pellets are generally 4200-4800kcal/kg, straw pellets are 3500-4000kcal/kg, and rice husk pellets are 3000-3500kcal/kg;
The ash content should be low, which should be below 3%, and the waste residue is less and easy to clean; third, the combustion efficiency can be judged by observing the flame color, size, stability, and the presence or absence of black smoke and odor through actual combustion tests. High efficiency can fully burn and reduce waste.
